ABOUT THE STUDY PROGRAM

The combined undergraduate and graduate program in Architecture has a teaching period of five years. The five-year teaching period is divided into ten semesters based on the pass system—our graduates from the Department of Architecture graduate with the title of Master of Science in Architecture. Architecture is a multifaceted discipline with close relations with science, art, and technology; it strongly affects daily life and human beings. The design and production of the built environment are the main focus of the field of architecture. The emergence of the architecture dates back to the ancient period. Throughout history, the basic needs of human beings, such as housing, living, working places, and social spaces, have shaped the architectural and urban landscape. Art and society have been rooted in the culture of architecture since antiquity. Today, architecture has a stronger impact on lives than ever before, and the architect has great responsibilities in ensuring the well-being of people and in contemporary methods to be developed to strike a balance between the city and the natural environment through sustainable architecture that considers renewable energy. Therefore, architects are also responsible for correctly constructing the built environment. The Department of Architecture aims to develop students' awareness of the built environment and train them as architects who can express their creative and innovative projects. The department attaches importance to communicating with other disciplines and developing projects with participatory processes. Thanks to the international environment created by the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture, academics and students, communication with different architectural cultures, and ease of access to various resources in the field enrich the expertise and knowledge of the department.

MISSION

Department of Architecture at the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture aims to train researchers and innovative, entrepreneurial, and creative designers who can help. With an educational approach that guides and liberates the student to question and research, the architecture program is student-oriented. It aims to help develop research, analysis, synthesis, and critical thinking skills. Considering the critical, theoretical, and experimental design problems in the face of changing and differentiating vital needs, an educational approach is adopted where theory and practice are intertwined. Our basic mission is to train professionals who are needed with current practices and future projections in the context of different disciplines, social, technological, social and cultural factors with which architecture is in contact, to provide knowledge through the production and sharing of scientific data, to gain experience, and to develop a creative perspective. In a rapidly changing world, designing, constructing, using, increasing its qualitative development, and creating a sustainable environment and living spaces in a cultural heritage environment respect society, the environment, and universal human values internalizing professional, ethical values, critical and independent thinking are some of the main points of our mission.

ABOUT THE COURSES

The curricula of the architecture department have been created with courses that contain information that can be used at all levels of working life. In the combined undergraduate and graduate architecture program, technical training is provided on the design of all kinds of buildings, the equipment of their spaces, the production of objects that users will need, and the planning and coordination of the construction process. The program gives in-depth information in four main areas: architectural design and building knowledge, architectural history, building elements, and computer-aided design programs. The fact that the student produces and presents projects of different scales and functions with this knowledge in workshops and laboratories every semester constitutes the part of undergraduate education in which the student is active and oriented towards professional practice.
